Today was the last day here, and it was a “bonus day.” We did a little shopping in the morning, and then spent the afternoon either in the pool or on the beach. We had one last Arbre à Parlabre, walked on the beach, and had dinner together.

Still in Dakar
One of our leaders mentioned this morning that her brain acts like a jukebox sometimes. I’m the same way, if today had a song, it would be “Another Day of Sun.”
We started out at the beach, on the westernmost point on the continent of Africa.
Next was coffee in a little pub nearby, where we met “Plastic Man,” an environmental mental activist. We went down to the beach and picked up 26 bags of garbage off the beach.
In the afternoon, we toured Dakar for a little while.
Ended the evening with dinner and a show at the lighthouse.

Dakar-Day 3
Today was a tough one. We went to Goree Island, first colonized by the Dutch, the British, then the French. We went to the Slave House, where 12.5 million men, women, and children were held before being shipped to North America as slaves. I would compare it to a concentration camp, everyone except the guide whispered, and I felt like I was walking on hallowed ground.
Men’s Cell
In the children’s cell
Young Women’s cell
Punishment cells
Reflection room, dedicated to the women. Everyone was invited to take a little water from the fountain, and sprinkle it on the ground, as kind of a meditation.
Door of no return
Sand painting demonstration
Dinner was pizza, delicious of course. 🙂
