Florence

Tuesday, we decided to spend the day in Florence.  We're going to go back with the kids, but we thought maybe there were things we may not get to do with a large group.  The first stop was Michelangelo's library and the basilica of St. Lorenzo.
Donatello's tomb
The tombs of the Medici family.

I always take pictures of the ceilings.  I realize they're decorated so that you look up towards heaven, and each one is unique.
Then we went into the Duomo

Then we decided to be adventurous, and climb to the top of the dome.  This was fear conquering for me, I'm mildly claustrophobic, and a spiral staircase of 463 stairs with teeny tiny windows made me question my sanity a few times.  But it was worth it.

"It's only a little farther."
"You said that 4 flights ago!!!"
I thought coming back down would be easier, but in reality, trying to get down this set of steps was like being five years old and stuck on the top of the monkey bars.

Our well-deserved lunch.

Gates of Heaven
We wandered around Florence for awhile, even stopped at the food market.  I got some candy and some pesto.  The pesto will go home with me, the candy won't last that long :)
